How I Met Your Mother (S07 E05) - "Fiel Trip"

Hello again,

Quick message :

I just watched the new How I Met Your Mother (HIMYM) episode and from the two first seconds, I could tell exactly what the episode was going to be about. That's why I wanted to share with you several elements of my viewing.

Fade-in. We see Robin sitting in a psychiatrist office. This is the typical set-up for a "psychology" episode where the character will end up in therapy, almost every time court-ordered, and will have some sort of epiphany that we all already had several episodes earlier.
It reminded me instantly of Frasier (S07 E22 - "Dark Side Of The Moon") when Daphne is sent to therapy for having caused a multiple car pile-up. In the beginning she doesn't understand what she is doing in the shrink's office and at the end, with the very romantic revelation that she had put on her favorite dress for a simple visit to Niles apartment, Daphne finally accepts her feelings for "Dr. Crane".
The HIMYM episode starts that way but the revelation is rather less important than Daphne's in Frasier.

What I particularly appreciated in this episode is the fact that Robin also tells Lilly and Marshall's story that has very little to do with why she is in therapy but manages to link it in an absolutely improvised way to her main plot. This is an interesting twist to be able to tell both the main and secondary plot-line because it is openly admitted that there is no real connection between Robin's and Lilly and Marshall's story.

Try to look out for these loose ends that are openly revealed. HIMYM has many which gives the series its own beauty.

Oddly enough, in the way I analyzed the episode, the real epiphany was Marshall's boss' who finally decided to take a stand for the planet. In a sort of way, we can say that Marshall's story had a link with Robin's therapy since it had the real epiphany even though nobody really cares about Marshall's boss ; not the characters, not you, not me.

The rest of the episode was pretty standard, maybe a little too standard for HIMYM, but still pretty enjoyable.

As I said, quick message.
Thank you,
